Animangapop: The Interviews

Animangapop: Behind the Scenes

The interviews

In this short series we take a look behind the curtain at some of the people who make the magic happen. These people give huge chunks of their spare time to bring these shows to life all around the country and are dedicated in making sure they put on the best show they possibly can, making sure everyone has a fabulous time and leave them wanting to attend Animangapop again. So without further ado, let’s say hello to… Kim.

Hello Kim, thank you for taking the time to sit down and answer some questions.

Can you tell us what your role here is at Animangapop?

Well, technically I am a Director but that covers many different things from logistics to stage management. Jack of all trades, me!

How did you get involved with Animangapop and have long have you been here?

I was the first crew member long ago when we only had 4 channels on a black and white TV. Yeah, I’ve been here since day 1. If you are lucky you might find an image of me somewhere on the internet way back when.

What is one of your favourite tasks and why?

I love the office days as of course there is always food, drink and good music. Don’t forget my beautiful Cinnamon Roll inspired desk.

What is the one task that is a grind but needs to be done?

Sorting out the stage, and lighting. Each song for 1 minute, takes an hour to make lighting for. Making sure the timing is correct can be a task and a half!

If you had to pick one memorable thing that has happened in the last 10 years of AMP, what is it?

When a venue said we had to have security for the after party and 2 x huge door staff turned up. 1 hour in and they were in the after party room with attendee’s glow bands converted into a skipping rope and skipping whilst everyone in cosplay counted in unison! Hah.

Animangapop embraces all forms of Japanese POP-Culture. What is your favourite part of Japanese culture and why?

Oh, Anime, because I’ve watched way to much!

What is your Favourite Anime?

Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood

Tell us one funny thing that has happened to you at an Animangapop event in the past?

There was a few times the stage lights stopped working, so I had to “action” roll / forward roll, to the other side of the stage to sort it out whilst someone was dancing on stage. Like a Ninja!

Thank you for time time on this Kim, we know you are super busy with Shows.
